Day 1: Kitulgala – White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting Adventure
White water rafting is the highlight of Kitulgala. The umplifiying rapids of the Kelani River are suitable not only for beginners but also for experienced rafters. The rafting ride is about 5 kilometers long and runs into 5 major rapids and 4 minor ones. At the same time, safety is a priority here, and with experienced guides nothing can go wrong or hurt you at this ride.
Other Water-Based Activities
Besides rafting, Kitulgala is famous for other water sports like canyoning where individuals take a lovely swims down the waterfalls and down natural rock formations. Kayaking and river expeditions too are popular for people to take them on the serene scenic parts of Kelani River on leisurely pace.

Day 2: Adam's Peak
Introduction
Locally Sri Pada, Adam’s Peak is not only a mountain but also a spiritual pilgrimage site. At 2,243 meters high, this mountain is one of the country’s most sacred and presents the most challenging, yet rewarding, trek in Sri Lanka. It is an adventure of a life time when you walk up for the breathtaking sunrise but that can cost you physically too!
The Trekking Experience
Trekking to Adam’s Peak usually sets out at night, so as to be on the summit at dawn. It’s well marked and there are steps to help with the trekking and even a few spots to rest. That said, as you climb, you’ll pass through a rich abundance of diverse landscapes including dense forests, open plains, and all sorts of interesting vistas and experiences. It’s a true test of endurance at about 5,500 steps.
Witnessing the Sunrise
Getting to the top of Adam’s Peak by dawn is something you will not forget. Oh, it’s amazing: The sight of the sun blazing over the horizon and leaving a golden shade over the surroundings mountains and valleys. The challenging climb is worth the trek as many trekkers describe it as a relevantly spiritual moment.
The Sacred Footprint
A shrine at the summit houses a footprint, revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and Muslims. It is believed by Buddhists to be the footprint of Lord Buddha; by Hindus, as the footprint of Lord Shiva; and by Christians and Muslims, as the footprint of Adam or St. Thomas. This increases the spiritual significance to the mountain by having its reverence practiced by people of all faiths.
Wildlife and Nature
The mountain is surrounded by a richly biodiverse area of the Adam’s Peak Wilderness Sanctuary. Keep your eyes pealed for various specie of birds, butterflies and if you’re lucky enough even an elusive leopard or elephant. The greenery, pristine environment and such make this trekging experience a true nature’s wonder.

Day 3: Ella
Introduction
Located in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, Ella is a picture perfect town celebrated for its striking landscape, and unbeatable hiking. This is one of those places which offers iconic Nine Arches Bridge and trek up Ella Rock awaits adventure lovers. Because of its cool climate and its scenic beauty, Ella is a very good place to go hiking and exploring.
Hiking to Ella Rock
Ella Rock is probably the most popular hiking trail while you are in Ella. It’s about 2–3 hours each way and involves heading along the railway tracks and then up a steep ascent through tea plantations and through the forests. With the lush green valleys and distant mountain views a panoramic view will leave you breathless.
Little Adam’s Peak
Little Adam’s Peak is a great choice for a shorter and acceptionly easier hike. It takes 45 minutes up to the summit and the trail is well marked. Little Adam’s Peak has stunning views just as scenic as Ella’s, a 360 degree vista of the landscape around. All ages and fitness levels can do the trek, and so it makes for a great family friendly adventure.
The Nine Arches Bridge
A visit to Ella is not complete without Nine Arches Bridge— its most famous landmark. This is a stunning viaduct surrounded by dense jungle and tea plantations that is simply stunning. Train best observed when it passes over the bridge. It’s a brief hike from Ella town to reach the bridge.
Diyaluma Falls
Diyaluma Falls is the second highest waterfall in Sri Lanka with a short drive from Ella. Getting up to the falls is an adventure in itself, with incredible views and naturals pools to swim at. With cascading waters and lush surroundings this makes for a perfect day trip from Ella.

From luxury resorts to budget guesthouses Ella has something for everyone. The surrounding hills and valleys have many wonderful places where to see stunning views of. There are as well, plenty of restaurants and cafes that offer a variety of local and international food. Make sure you try one of the local eateries famous Sri Lankan roti and tea.
Day 4: Yala National Park
Introduction
Yala National Park in Sri Lanka’s southeastern region is one of the country’s best wildlife destinations. High concentration of leopards coupled with rich biodiversity makes Yala just too great for a safari. With its forests, grasslands and lagoons, the park supplies a diverse habitat for many creatures.
Safari Experience
Yala National Park safari is an adventure of being up and close with nature. Among the animals in the park are leopards, elephants, sloth bears, deer and several species of bird. A guided jeep safari is perhaps the best way to explore the park and lasts a few hours. The best time of day for wildlife sightings is early morning and late afternoon.
The Leopards of Yala
One of the highest density of leopards in the world can be found in Yala. For many, spotting these difficult to find big cats is the highlight. Leopards are most active in the early morning and late afternoon and give you the best chance of seeing them. You are more likely to see one if you are guided by an experienced guide who knows the best spots and behaviours to look for.
Bird Watching
Apart from the birds, over 200 bird species have been recorded in the park. The park is home to colorful peacocks and majestic eagles, plus a variety of waterfowl and migratory birds; and it presents excellent bird photography and observation opportunities. The park offers a variety of bird species due to diverse habitats, like wetlands, and lagoons.

Day 5: Sigiriya – The Lion Rock

An ancient fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site, Lion Rock or Sigiriya towers proudly above the heart of Sri Lanka. This ancient marvel of engineering is not just a marvel of ancient engineering, it’s also a thrill to visit. From the top of Sigiriya you get breathtaking views and glimpses of the country’s rich history.
The Climb to the Top
Climbing to the top of Sigiriya can be an adventure. There are also steps and metal staircases and the path is very well constructed. It is comprised of many phases, water gardens, boulder gardens and the famous Lion’s Gate. The final bit of climb, going through the lion’s paws, is the most exciting and also makes you feel like you accomplished something when you get to the top.
The Ancient Frescoes
En route to the famous Sigiriya frescoes halfway up the rock. Of these ancient paintings, this one of celestial maidens, is a powerful statement of the artistic virtuosity of several centuries ago. The frescoes are excellently preserved and together form an interesting contribution to the cultural and artistic history of Sri Lanka.
The Mirror Wall
The other highlight of the climb is the Mirror Wall, that once used to be so smooth that the king could see his own reflection. Today, the wall has poems, inscriptions and ancient graffiti left behind by visitors through the centuries. Thus these writings can shed some light on how these people were living and thinking at this bygone era.
The Summit and Its Views
Achieving the top of Sigiriya is an accomplishment. At the top of the rock are the remains of the ancient palace complex: foundations from buildings, cisterns and gardens. Day 6: Trincomalee – Diving and Snorkeling

Trincomalee,on the northeast coast of Sri Lanka, is a mecca for water sports. Trincomalee is famous for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear oceans, and has some excelent diving and snorkelling opportunities. Trincomalee has had the privilege of winding beaches, stunning coral reefs, and marine life for you to explore.
Diving in Trincomalee
The diving off Trincomalee is done with plenty of marine life, the coral reefs are lovely and the waters are teeming with life. Swami Rock is a popular dive site for its rock formations underwater, and marine biodiversity as well as the wreck of the British Sergeant a shipwreck from World War II filled with aquatic life. There are certified dive centers at Trincomalee that deal with dives of all levels, from a beginner to a more advanced divers.
Snorkeling at Pigeon Island
One of the best snorkeling places in Sri Lanka, Pigeon Island National Park is just a short boat ride out from Trincomalee. It has a variety of marine species, colourful fish, sea turtles and reef sharks found in the reefs of its coral island. Snorkeling in Pigeon Island is an experience, its waters crystal clear with plenty marine life.
Whale and Dolphin Watching
Trincomalee is also known for whale dolphin watching tours. Off the coast, blue whales, sperm whales and all manner of dolphins and porpoises cruise the deep waters. With these tours you get a chance to see these spectacular creatures in their original home, which is a thrilling and awe inspiring experience.

The day after you have finished underwater adventures with all the beauty of Trincomalee’s beautiful beaches. You can’t go wrong with nilaveli beach and uppuveli beach, with pristine sands and more or less clear waters. And of course these beaches are just great for sunbathing, swimming and to relax.

Day 7: Kandy – Cultural and Adventure

The Sacred Tooth Relic Temple
Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is one of Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist sites. This temple carries the sacred tooth relic of Lord Buddha and also houses a UNESCO World Heritage site from a place of pilgrimage. From exploring temple complex and intricate architecture to the serene atmosphere we can explore spiritual heart of Kandy.
Hiking in Knuckles Mountain Range
Adrenalin junkies need look no further than the Knuckles Mountain Range, just outside of Kandy, for some pretty awesome hiking. It is a biodiversity hotspot and is named after its similarity to a clenched fist in its range. Here hiking trails range in difficulty from easy walks through tea plantations, to more challenging treks through dense forest. Panoramic views, flora and fauna of all kinds, made this a hiker’s paradise.
The Royal Botanical Gardens
While in Kandy one of the must visits is to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. The gardens occupy some 147 acres and boast a wide collection of plants, including orchids of exotic variety, palms towering skyward and medicinal plants. Although it’s not oriented towards kids in a direct manner, relaxing and learning about it in nature loving and botany enthusiasts will love the gardens.
Buddha Statue – Kandy Lake
Away from the bustle of the city you can meditate at Kandy Lake, right in the centre of the town, where you can enjoy a quiet walk or a boat ride along its calm waters. Scenic path round the lake features beautiful views of the city and the hills nearby. The Bahirawakanda Buddha Statue is another great site and a giant white statue overlooking the city. In visit to the statue, you get to see good view of Kandy and you can take awesome pictures.
